黄宾虹（1865年-1955年），现代杰出国画大师。原名懋质，名质，字朴存、朴人、亦作朴丞、劈琴，号宾虹，别署予向、虹叟、黄山山中人等。原籍安徽歙县，出生于浙江金华。幼喜绘画，课余之暇，兼习篆刻。6岁时，临摹家藏的沈庭瑞（樗崖）山水册，1887年赴扬州，从郑珊学山水，从陈崇光（若木）学花鸟。
在中国近现代画坛上，黄宾虹是一位非常重要的画家。其画风与丰富多变的笔墨，蕴涵着深刻的民族文化精神与自然内美的美学取向。几十年来，黄宾虹的绘画一直受到美术界的广泛关注，并逐渐释放出巨大的能量，影响着当今中国画坛。
黄宾虹的绘画价值，随着时间的推移，其效应已显示出来，而其艺术价值的显现，又是全方位的。除山水画外，花鸟画也境界不凡，书法成就更不能等闲视之；他还有着自己的画学理论建构；其金石篆刻、文字学、考古学也颇有建树。黄宾虹的确是一位“不能仅以画史目之”的学者型艺术家。由于黄宾虹在美术史上的突出贡献，在他90岁寿辰的时候，被国家授予“中国人民优秀的画家”荣誉称号。
Huang Binhong (1865-1955), the outstanding master for traditional Chinese painting in modern times. His original surname is Maozhi, or Mingzhi, with another name of Pucun, Puren, or Pucheng, Piqin, with alias of Binhong, Yuxiang, Hongsou or a Man in Huangshan and so on. His ancestral home is she County, Anhui Province, but he was born at Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. When he was young, he liked painting, and studied seal cutting in his spare time. At the age of six, he copied collections of mountain and river paintings made by Shen Tingrui (or Chuya). In 1887, he moved to Yangzhou to study mountain and river paintings following Zheng Shan and to study flower and bird paintings following Chen Chongguang (or Ruomu). In the contemporary and modern field of traditional Chinese painting, Huang Binhong is a very important artist. His painting style and changeable writings are filled with profound national culture spirit and aesthetic orientation of inherent beauty of nature. For decades, Huang Binhong’s paintings have been widely favored by the arts circle and have released their huge energy, imposing great influence on contemporary Chinese painting field.
The value involved in Huang Binhong’s paintings has been available with the elapse of time, while the demonstration of his artistic value is rather comprehensive. In addition to mountain and river paintings, he is also excellent in flower and bird paintings, not mentioning his achievements in Chinese calligraphy. He has established his own theories of Chinese painting. He also made his contributions in the fields of inscription, seal cutting, philology and archeology. Indeed, Huang Binhong is a scholar-artist not judged from the perspective of Chinese painting history only.
