买玫瑰的时候，人们

总是考虑选择花瓣的颜色：

白色的，红色的，或是黄色的……

因为，不同人喜欢

不同的颜色。但是

很少有人谈及你的刺

“如果没有刺，你看上去

什么都不像，仅仅是一个

怪物。”我的疑问一闪而过──

既然“刺是你最好的部分”

如果买之前，不被你的刺

扎破一次，我又如何

判断刺的质感呢？

Roses

Hai-Sui Yu

When people buy roses

they always think about the colour:

white, red, or yellow…

Because different people

like different colours. But

people don’t often mention the thorns

“If you didn’t have thorns, you’d look like

nothing at all, you’d just be

a monster.” The question flashes through my mind—

If your thorns are your best part,

how can I know what they’ll feel like

if you don’t prick me

before I buy you?

Mountains and rivers are separated, the gulls fly alone. Tears pour on

The Huanhua Stream, the fragrance of fame remains after a thousand years

A thousand years apart, I wander around the thatched house on my own. The August Wind

Still blows unstoppably. The thatched roof has blown away, travelling across centuries …

The rusty old times have been. In a trance

Comes the Tang Dynasty sky in turbulence

| 余海岁 (Hai-Sui Yu)，号南乡子，皖南徽州人。世界著名岩土力学家，诗人，牛津大学博士，英国皇家工程院院士。现任英国利兹大学常务副校长。曾任英国利兹大学署理校长及英国诺丁汉大学副校长。2011年入选世界名人录。著有个人诗词集《心相忆》、《天涯梦回》、《立冬辞》及《风雨灯》。曾获第四届中国年度新诗奖“年度杰出诗人奖”和第九届“剑桥徐志摩诗歌奖”暨“徐志摩银柳叶诗歌奖”。

“香港国际诗歌之夜”（IPNHK）是诗人北岛于二〇〇九年创办的国际诗歌节。IPNHK十七年来已成功传递了来自三十多个国家及上百位知名国际诗人的诗歌及思想，成为了亚洲最具影响力的诗歌盛事之一，也是国际诗坛上最成功的诗歌活动之一。IPNHK是“世界文学联盟”的成员，与该联盟合作并打造世界最领先的诗歌节。
