2003年SARS疫病前后，在湖南一座叫耀扬的小城里生存着这样一些人。宏伟和妻子经营着一家非法的麻将馆为生，却是麻烦不断。麻将馆隔壁非法同居着一对青年男女，牛振宇和王蓉，是打胎还是结婚，金钱与感情纷杂交织。阿紫下岗后几经起伏，最后开了一家按摩院，却要倚仗的痞小丘勉强维持。全城风行六合彩赌博，阿龙赌得很凶，输得一塌糊涂，但他认为没有其它出路。

这是一个纷乱无稽的底层世界，生存的悖论主宰着人们的生活，真实却荒谬。非典袭来，宏伟一家最终关了麻将馆到乡下送瘟神；王蓉无奈地打掉孩子，独自躲在黑暗的街角哭泣；阿紫和小丘在生意惨淡的焦虑中打闹，却演变成一场暴力；只有买六合彩的人们依旧狂热，但发财的梦想一个接着一个破灭。

一群年轻人在酒桌上谈论着过去、未来、生命、金钱、机会、江湖和命运；十六岁的按摩女在昏暗中力不从心地挤捏着，两具肉体在床上扭打、撕咬……

Before and after the SARS epidemic in 2003， there are some people in a small town called Yaoyang in Hunan. Hongwei and his wife are running an illegal mahjong club but it has been a troublesome business. Next door to the club are a young couple who live together illegally. They are Niu Zhengyu and Wang Rong， who are torn by the question of abortion and marriage， as well as money and relationship. A zi get laid off and after several ups and downs， she opens a massage saloon but has to rely on Xiao Qiu the thug to make ends meet. Lottery gambling is prevalent in the small town. A Long’s a heavy gambler but he sees no other way out.

This is a ridiculously chaotic world of the underprivileged. The paradox of survival dominates people‘s lives and the reality is absurd. SARS hit the town and Hongwei’s family have to close the Mahjong club to avoid the plague in the countryside； Wang Rong has no choice but to have an abortion. She cries alone at a dark street corner. A Zi and Xiao Qiu fight amid the agony of the bleak business， which escalate into violence. Only those people who still buy lottery were fanatic， but their hope of getting rich dashes one by one.

A group of young people are talking about the past， future， life， money， opportunities， society and destiny over a table. A sixteen-year-old female massager pinches in the dark. Two bodies in bed， wrestling and biting....

闻海，又名黄文海，独立纪录片导演，70年代生人。主要作品有《北京郊区》、《军训营纪事》、《喧哗的尘土》、《我们》、《梦游》 、《西方去此不远》等。

本片为《黑暗传》电影三部曲的第一部。

老齐、汪强、占全、小曾四人，都在本县长大，是几十年的好朋友。老齐的老婆去年死了，如今独自经营着一个茶馆，生意清淡。他们有一个异想天开的发财梦：想找个女人结婚，再给新娘买保险，接着制造“意外”，以获得保险赔偿。他们准备共同来“投资”交投保费，在事后分享一大笔的赔偿金。单身的老齐被大家一致推选为新郎的人选。然而，事情的发展逐渐让所有人陷入困境……

Lao Qi， Wang Qiang， Zhanquan and Xiaozeng all are local breeds. They’ve been friends for decades. Lao Qi’s wife died and he’s now running a small teashop with a small trickle of customers. They has a dream to get rich： find a woman to get married， buy insurance for the bride， and bring about ‘accidents’ to gain insurance. They are ready to ‘invest’ the insurance fee and share a fortune after the ‘accident’. The widowed Lao Qi was the candidate for the ‘groom’. However， its development has put everyone into adversity….

章明，导演，编剧，北京电影学院导演系教授。1961年出生，早先在西南师大攻读油画专业。1989年进入北京电影学院导演系攻读研究生。1995年，他拍摄了电影长片处女作《巫山云雨》（获首届韩国釜山国际电影节新潮流奖，加拿大国际电影节“龙虎奖”，第十四届都灵国际电影节最佳影片和国际影评人费比西奖），其他电影作品有《秘语十七小时》、《结果》、《爱情狗》、《巫山之春》、《60》、《苍蝇》等。电影创作之外，他还著有《找到一种电影方法》一书。

Zhang Ming Director， Screenwriter， and professor of the Department of Directing， Beijing Films Academy. He was born in 1961. He studied oil painting as an undergraduate at Southwest China Normal University and earned a Master’s degree in the Department of Directing， Beijing Film Academy in 1989. His film credits include the internationally acclaimed Rainclouds over Wushan （it won the New Trend Award in the 1st Bushan International Film Festival， “Dragon and Tiger Award” of the Canada International Film Festival， Best Film of the 14th Turino International Film Festival and FIPRESCI Prize）. His other works include Secret words 17 hours， Results， Love Dog， The Spring of Wushan， 60 and Flies. Apart from films， he’s also the author of the book Find out a Way to Film.
